The Finals night brought about matches between Gary Marshall
& Scott Finnan, and Clair Homersham & Abbey Farris.
Both matches provided great entertainment and excellent
squash. Gary, despite a valiant effort, could not quite make up the
handicap difference - eventually losing to Scott.
Abbey and Clair's match was closer with respect to the
starting handicapped scores. It was a great match with Abbey winning
3-1.
Congratulations to both winners and runners up for providing
such a great night. A social evening followed with a buffet and the
bar.....
5th October - Team Tournament
The Team Tournament - fun yet very competetive, took place
on the 5th of October. 4 teams of 5 entered included Seniors and Junior
members alike.
Teams as follows:
Team A - Tom Swain, Callum Finnan, Luke
Linnett, Andrew Fisher, Leo Danczak. Team B - Jake Wallis, Rob Farris, Max Morgans, Callum
Quigley, Owen Read. Team C - Robin Wilson, Scott Finnan, Chris Gorman,
Niki Reed, Tom Reed. Team D - Phil Carter (Snr), Dave Woodcock, James Friday,
Charlie Stow, Claire Brockman.
Competetive squash ensued apace with 10 minutes non-stop
per game. The tournament was tight overall with Team A in fourth place
(Wooden Spoon, 348 points), Team D in third place (351 points), Team
C in second (373 points), and Winners were Team B (390 points).
Most individual points (but not allowed to be a winning
team member) were achieved tied by Tom Reed and Leo Danczak. This was
resolved by looking at the head to head match which Tom won, so he was
given that accolade.
27th/28th September - Kent Junior Open Championships
(Maidstone)
This event, with Boys and Girls sections, was held over
the above weekend at Mote Park and Maidstone Squash Club respectively.
There were qualifying matches / leagues on the Saturday with finals
on Sunday.
Boys - The competition was of a very
high standard - some individuals playing England number 1 and 8s etc.
Owen R made it to the U11 final but was sadly beaten, Callum F was outstanding
but beaten gracefully, Andrew F made it to the semi final but was beaten,
Kes G and Callum Q played fantastically......
Girls - The Girls faced a limited number
of entrants but they were of a very high standard. Everyone played to
the best of their ability, stepping up their games as needed but no
one progressed to semi finals / finals on Sunday. All played with dignity
and accepted defeat gracefully. Generally, each girl was at the bottom
of their respective age group - better luck next year!
Abbey Farris was susbsequently asked to play at number
5 in the Kent U19 Squad on the 19th of October at an inter-County match
- Congratulations. Unfortunately, she is in Spain on a netball tour.
Gutted. Well done Abbey.
This event for the Juniors took place over Friday and
Saturday the 13th and 14th of June...
This was an amazing couple of days
with an extremely high level of squash being played. Finalists
were Ben Allen and Chris Gorman. Due to a very unfortunate and
ugly injury to Ben, Chris was awarded the match. Chris was leading
at the time. Ben was taken to hospital but returned later with
crutches to receive his Runner-up trophy and to enjoy some one
BBQ food. All entrants into this tournament received medals.
Max Morgans was presented with the Best Team Player
Trophy for the last season.
There were presentations also for the team members
of the Kent League who each won their respective divisions and
achieved promotion.
