On the 22nd of August the team from Liverpool descended into Biddenden
for the 6th time. On the Friday night they were welcomed by a very busy
club and had a fantastic evening playing football, squash and socialising
with all members young and old.
On Saturday the serious business was about to start, after five years
there was finally a trophy to play for and after Biddenden won the match
in 2007 Liverpool were keen to regain the title and take the trophy
back up North. Before the match started there was a momentous occasion
for the club's current youngest member as Alfie made his first appearance
on a squash court - even if he was wearing a Liverpool Squash Team shirt!

The match started with the number 1's going head to head. Andrew Breen
from Liverpool was taking on Gary Marshall in what turned out to be
an epic and important result. Andrew won the match 3-2 after an hour's
play to put the visitors into the lead.
Second game on was the number 2’s (no pun intended!). Pat Burt for
the home team was taking on the unbeaten (in Biddenden v Liverpool matches)
Alan Gibbons. After a long first game Pat took the lead and then never
looked back, winning the match 3-0 to give the home team the advantage
at the halfway point.
The next match on was Tom Swain (Biddenden) against the Liverpool
captain Ben Norton. After years of playing against each other these
2 knew each others games really well and it showed in what proved to
be another tight and fascinating match. Tom took the lead after winning
the first game but Ben came back strong and won the next 2 to take a
2-1 lead. Tom fought back against the Liverpool skipper and took the
final 2 games to set up a crucial final match between the last 2 players.
Simon Watt for Liverpool took on Biddenden’s club captain Philip Carter
Snr (sorry Phil!). Simon needed to win 3-0 to tie the match and force
a count back on points scored and started excellently taking the first
game and building the tension in the gallery. Phil then fought back
strongly and won the next game to secure the match for Biddenden.
While the rest of the Biddenden players were celebrating Phil and Simon
remained locked in a match that eventually went to the Biddenden player
3-1.
Biddenden retained the trophy and Liverpool are now already in training
to come back next year to try and take back to Liverpool what can only
be described as one of the most coveted sporting titles in the world
(in our worlds anyway!).

Players from both teams would like to thank all those that supported
over the weekend and involved themselves in the match. We all look forward
to many more matches in the years to come.
