Welcome to Biddenden Squash Club - Juniors' Section
2009/10 Junior Squash Leagues
There are FOUR Junior teams this next Season. This will
require committment from Players, Parents and Helpers with time, transport,
catering etc on a large scale. There is an expectation that if you wish
your child to take part in this then one is expected to help share the
burden.
Junior Club Night resumed 9th September. The fees remain at £1.50
payable on the night.
Please note: Goggles
are compulsory and these will not be provided by the
Club this season. Also, sports clothing ONLY is acceptable
including non-marking training shoes. School uniform, jeans, cropped
trousers and leggings etc is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Similarly,
no jewellery will be permitted on court.
The Junior Section Information Pack may
be downloaded from this page. It is in pdf format so you will need the
free Adobe ® Acrobat Reader. If you do not have installed, you can
download it here

As seems to be happening each year, Biddenden Squash Club
Junior section had a fantastic 12 months with record entries for club
tournaments, success in the Kent Junior Leagues and more County representatives
across the age range for boys and girls. The juniors are also building
on the fantastic reputation the Club now has across Kent.
After the recent Boddington Trophy competition the chairman
of Kent Junior Squash said “I write to thanks all those clubs who entered,
in particular Biddenden, who in my mind, in the true spirit of junior
squash entered two teams to give as many juniors, whatever their ability,
the chance to play squash.”
Well done to all the juniors who represented the club
in the tournament, I know you did yourselves and the Club proud.
There have been some spectacular events this year too - World Squash
Day was one of the most fantastic events seen at the club in years and
the France trip was a great success also. Who knows where the juniors
will end up in 2009! A special thanks must go to Nikki Reed, Sam Cooper,
Martin and Liz Finnan, Mark Gorman and all the parents who have supported
these events as well as the juniors who participated in them.
Thanks again must go to Nikki and Sam for setting up and running the
junior box leagues, allowing even more opportunities for our junior
section to play competitive squash...and while we are in the thanking
mood, continuing thanks goes to Martin, Mark, Nikki and Sam (with Rob
helping) for running the 3 junior teams this current season.
The year finished with a fantastic team tournament where 30 juniors
participated and battled to win the t-shirts and avoid the wooden spoons
(although the wooden spoons are highly sought after nowadays!). The
event was followed by the a Christmas Party and of course loads more
squash and on behalf of the Club I would like to thank all those involved
with helping to organise the tournament and then the Christmas party
that followed. The evening also saw the presentation of the annual Club
Awards for the juniors. The 2 most improved players for 2008 (out of
a lot of strong candidates) are Harry Golding and Lauren Jones. Throughout
the year they have consistently improved their level of squash and are
now regularly involved with the junior leagues and tournaments. Callum
Quigley was awarded the Fair Play award for 2008, due mostly to his
attitude towards all aspects of squash over the last 12 months. The
Achievement in Junior Squash award went to Charlie Stow. Charlie is
one of the original juniors from way back in the early part of the century.
Charlie has been a loyal and committed member of the Club for many years
and has developed into a very good junior squash player. He has been
regularly involved with the junior teams and has also made the step
up into the senior box leagues but Charlie has shown a real interest
in coaching too. Over the last year he has given up his time on a Wednesday
evening to help develop the squash of younger players and I also know
that he plays them whenever he has free time. Congratulation Charlie,
a much deserved award.
At Last
We said it would happen sooner or later and at last it has. After
Richard Quigley won a senior tournament we knew that it wouldn’t be
long until one of the girls took the title in a ladies tournament. Well
done Abbey Farris, you played superbly the whole tournament and fully
deserved your title.
A Special Congratulation
Being pipped to the post by his eldest daughter for getting the Farris
name on the Honours Board, a special congratulations must go to Rob
for his award of Club Person of the Year 2008. Rob has supported the
Club for many years now as a player, a parent, the web designer and
now assistant team manager. His support and attitude towards the Club
has helped take it forward and I know the junior section are as grateful
as the rest of the Club.
Last Word
Thank you all for your continuing support throughout 2008 and we look
forward to 2009. Please keep checking the website for any further information
and make sure you make a note of any important dates for tournaments,
trips and events.
